Theme Presentation Reflections

   Group 3: Racism

Group 3 made an amazing presentation about racism. They demonstrated a significant notion about the past of racism as well its present and where is headed. It was interesting to know the history of racism, how has become a major issue, how the community has been addressing it and the leaders who have risen in favor of the black community and that have inspired other people to do the same. Racism have been present for many years, horror and sad events have been committed because of racism, but today our communities are stronger and they continue fighting against this issue. Organizations and movements have been created throughout the years like the Civil Rights Movement, The Harlem Renaissance or also known as the ''New Negro Movement'' and Black Lives Matter, all these movements produced a big change in the direction of racism. Even though racism is a matter that sadly will continue, the important thing is how we fight against it whatever we find it even in ourselves.

Group 2: The Pandemic/Health Care Background

Group 2 did an amazing job presenting this topic. Covid-19 made a big impact in our lives, our health, politics and in the economic. The pandemic not only caused the death of million of people but also caused the largest global recession in history, with more than a third of the global population in lockdown. There have been instability that resulted in price pikes and disruptions to markets. Furthermore,  global conferences, and events across technology, fashion and sports have been canceled or postponed. Many people lost their jobs, thus they had difficulties to pay rent/ mortgage and many tenants sparked a movement to cancel rent. In response to this, the government of United States has taken some measures helping detect and slowing the spread of the virus and keeping Americans safe. Some forms of support are shelter and food relief initiatives, employment retention and recovery and financial relief for businesses. Now is the time where only together we can overcome the impacts of the pandemic and prevent its escalation into a protracted humanitarian and food security catastrophe.

Group 1: Education now and in the future

Group 1 made an incredible presentation about the education in United States, the reality of the lives of the students facing many challenges and how this could be in the future. Students face many issues since lack of security in schools, racism, bully from other students, low grades because their lack of interested in school and parents most of the time do not have time for their children. Money is another important issue that have been a dilemma nowadays, the university education is very expensive and almost all the students need to work to pay school, even though students can apply for financial aid not all of them get classify. This last year has taught the students to care more about their classmates and parents to get closer to their children, with Covid-19 classes have been taken online, a new way for both students and teachers preventing the spread of the virus.
